  • Obituary: Gwendolyn Anne Manning June 12, 1949 - May 24, 2025 Surrounded by family and friends, Gwendolyn Anne Manning passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on June 12, 1949, in Truro, Nova Scotia, Gwen spent her early years immersed in the beauty of the Maritimes, where she developed a lifelong love of animals and adventure. At just 11 years old, she got her first horse, Piccolo Pete, and soon became an accomplished equestrian, competing in horse jumping with great passion and skill. In 1967, Gwen moved to Halifax to attend Dalhousie University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. It was there she met her first husband, Glenn Smith, and in 1973, they welcomed their son, Jonathan. In 1975, she moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba with her son, to pursue a teaching certificate at the University of Winnipeg. There, she met her second husband, François Savoie, and together they welcomed two sons, Marc and Chris. In 1982, Gwen relocated to Riverview, New Brunswick, where her entrepreneurial spirit flourished. She opened a charming children's clothing store called Mom's and Kid's Stuff, worked as a taste tester for Kentucky Fried Chicken, and later found her niche in promotional sales with Rant Promotions. Gwen's greatest passion in life was travel. A woman of boundless curiosity and adventurous spirit, she explored the world with awe and delight. Her journeys took her across Europe, with a special love for France, where she spent a month with her dear friend Louis Miazga. She also traveled to Argentina, Peru, and parts of Africa. In retirement, she spent over a decade living abroad in Boquete, Panama, and Medellín, Colombia, immersing herself in new cultures and friendships. In 2014, she embarked on a solo journey through Southeast Asia, visiting Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. Her love of photography and digital art, especially using Photoshop, allowed her to capture and share the beauty she encountered. Gwen also embraced an active lifestyle and the outdoors. She loved tennis, biking, kayaking, skiing, and camping, and she was an exceptional cook and baker\emdash renowned among family and friends for her delicious creations. She is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Marc Savoie (Adrianne Gore), Chris Savoie (Annora Schoorl), and Jonathan Savoie. Gwen will also be deeply missed by her five cherished grandchildren: Finn, Luna, Hugo, Leo, and Imogen. Her legacy lives on through them, and through all whose lives she touched with her warmth, wit, and unquenchable spirit of adventure. She lived boldly, loved deeply, and never stopped exploring. She will be dearly missed. The Chronicle Herald Halifax,NS May 26, 2025
