  • Obituary: Jan. 10 - Mrs. Bessie Louise (Boomer) Cleveland, 87, Gold Star Mother, died yesterday at the Jordan Hospital. Widow of Stanford L. Cleveland, she had made her home on State Rd. in Manomet. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Second Church of Plymouth, Congregational, at Manomet with the Rev. David A. Leach officiating. Burial will be in the Cleveland family lot in Manomet Cemetery. Mrs. Cleveland was born in Brookfield, Nova Scotia, on April 1, 1885, the daughter of Kirk W. and Jane (Langell) Boomer. She was a member of the Manomet Congregational Church and its benefit society. Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland's son, Howard Cleveland was killed on Jan. 19, 1942 while serving with the Merchant Marines during World War II. She is survived by five sons, Wilfred C. of Manomet, Lewis of Plymouth, Walter of Manomet, Roy of Braintree and Harry Cleveland of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother Stanley Boomer of Nova Scotia; and four sisters, Ruby Davis of Oakfield, N.Y., Alice McMullum, Mrs. Annie Tarraville and Mrs. Min Wolfe, all of Nova Scotia. Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Beamans Funeral Home, 28 Middle St. In Lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Manomet Congregational Church.
